MOLA Architecture has been retained by Hines Ireland as Design Architect for the new mixed-use urban centre within the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone. Working in parallel with its wider masterplanning role, MOLA is leading the architectural design and coordination of fifteen hectares of lands designated for town centre uses, forming the principal retail, leisure, commercial, residential and service core of Cherrywood.
The commission involved collaboration with a number of international practices during the concept phase and the preparation of a single coordinated planning application for a 195,000sqm mixed-use scheme. The two primary plots, TC1 and TC2, accommodate approximately 30,000sqm of retail floor space, 24,000sqm of restaurants, cafés, leisure and community facilities and around 800 homes, supported by podium and basement parking, servicing and associated infrastructure.
Cherrywood Town Centre is envisioned as a highly walkable urban destination where living, working, shopping and social life coincide within an integrated public realm, designed at grade with the existing Luas line. The structure of streets, squares and landscaped routes establishes a coherent movement network and a legible civic framework, reinforcing the town centre as both a daily hub for residents and a destination. The project forms a key component of the wider SDZ and represents a major step in the emergence of Cherrywood as a new urban neighbourhood for south Dublin.
