Stokes Building, Dublin City University

At Dublin City University’s Glasnevin Campus, MOLA Architecture led the integrated design team to deliver the first major building project under DCU’s ambitious Capital Development Program from 2015 to 2021.

The Stokes Building extension responds directly to the university’s growing need for flexible and future focused teaching spaces, all while keeping the existing campus fully operational and welcoming.

This 4100 square metre four storey extension seamlessly connects to the existing science and engineering building and stands proudly as a new front door to the complex. The design includes two double stacked tiered auditoria, each accommodating 256 people, along with flat floor teaching spaces and academic offices. At full capacity, the building supports up to 1100 users, allowing the university to meet rising student numbers without compromise.

A striking glazed entrance atrium redefines the building’s identity, facing the business school quadrangle and creating an open and inviting presence on campus. Interlinked at every level yet capable of operating independently, the extension offers a new standard of adaptable and inspiring learning environments.
